Finally something from the 2012 election that we can actually stand!! Over the past 6 months we’ve definitely become huge Vicetone fans – and it’s because of quality tracks like the one below, entitled “Hope”, why we’ve continually become bigger supporters of the electro genre. If you check out their Soundcloud, this production had uploaded this electronic epicness just a few days ago and it’s already been played 15,000 times. We know that there are plenty of people who swear that Barack Obama is the anti-christ, but there’s no denying that as a speaker who aims to inspire, he is second to none. The mesh between both Obama’s sampled speech and Vicetone’s production is über-dope and gives all of us goosebumps over here. Make sure to check the video below; it’s definitely worth the watch. Also there’s embedded player where you can download the track. Enjoy. What do you think of Vicetone’s latest song, “Hope”?? We’d love to hear from you guys – let us know in the comments.

Ever wondered what Skylar Grey sounds like when she’s tryna get freaky?? Well, so have we and apparently Christmas has arrived early because today we’re bringing you Skylar’s latest release, “C’mon Let Me Ride.” Featuring the lyrical monster and hip hop’s favorite caucasian, Eminem, Skylar proceeds to explain how getting physical is “only natural” – this is definitely a different direction than we’re used to when listening to Skylar Grey’s music, but we’re glad that she’s stepping out of her comfort zone and trying something new on this Slim Shady produced record. It seems as though this track is looking to be the single of her album ‘Don’t Look Down’, set to release in 2013. The interesting thing about her upcoming album is that not only will Eminem be featured on it, but as it turns out he’s also Executive Producer, along with Skylar’s main producer Alex da Kid. That in itself shows the level of respect Em has for her talent and we can’t wait to hear the finished project. Check out “C’mon Let Me Ride”, and let us know what you guys think. Unfortunately there are tags, but as soon as the CDQ version drops, we’ll be sure to grab it for you guys. Do you think having Eminem as the Executive Producer on her upcoming album, help Skylar Grey put together a quality project and snag the attention deserve?? Let us know in the comments below.

We’re not gonna lie, we’re not the biggest fan of Jaden Smith as a rapper or hip hop artist – most of his verses seemed forced and aren’t really lyrically impressive. As an actor, the kid is fukkin’ epic and that’s where we believe his true talent lies. With all that said, we’ve just recently come across a music video of his, to an original track entitled “The Coolest” – and as much as we don’t take a like to his music, this song is pretty ill. So ill in fact, that something tells us this song was written for Jaden. If it wasn’t then more power to the kid, but we sincerely doubt this 14yr old put together a track this solid. The video itself, we’re definitely not super fond of – but we found ourselves bobbing our heads because the music is that good. Take a listen and let us know what you guys think. Is Jaden Smith gifted as a hip hop artist or should he stay off wax and continue to wax on?? Let us know in the comments below.

Meg Myers takes a Juliette Lewis meets dry, talkie-rap musical route to find sheer brilliance. A new kind of sound complete with guitar, banjo, piano and some techno beats, make each track distinctive and unique. Where she starts off as seemingly a bit “hardcore,” Meg seems to be anything but a “Daughter In the Choir” as the EP would so name her. She has a bit of a Zooey Deschanel, circa “Yes Man,” quality about her musical personality. She’s singing little rhymes and stories, and she’s talking in tune. The first track, “Tennessee” has a grungy sound, where she keeps complaining that she misses Tennessee. With her winding thoughts via lyrics, she commands your attention. If you miss a beat, you miss the point! “Adelaide” begins with a sweet piano melody and then takes off into a cute and catchy anthem, professing the need to pray for Adelaide. Meg is powering those lyrics and vocals straight into the hearts of her listeners. Her description of the “waste of love”, certainly has nothing to do with a fan’s love of this song. As Meg progresses through her EP, she also progresses through a parade of her musical influences, or so it seems. “Poison” is reminiscent of early hits from The Sounds mixed with Cranberries-esque moans, and harmonic scales. The lyrics are the epitome of poetic justice, driving the album forward. There are two versions of “Monster” on the album. The acoustic version is a bit more overpowering than the remix, but both are extremely strong. It’s almost strange to say they are the same song, because the dividing and complicated differences between the two are so profound. Regardless, “Monster” is a haunting and daunting tale of desperation and love. The deep techno beats of the remix pound down the sultry solos, and simple chorus. The simple guitar riff adds a subtlety to the tale, where the remix confronts the ears. “Monster” will be on the late night playlists of many, as it reminds listeners of the darkness, both lyrically and musically. “After You”, resurrects her sweetness and brings back that piano to paint the perfect picture of a ballad, that’s easy on the ears. This is the classic “girl needs boy” song, that will probably be featured in some indie flick accompanied by a rainy scene of forlorn love. It leaves an imprint on your mind, and on your playlist. Meg Myers is a hidden talent, but she’ll be anything but, soon enough. With songs like these at her mercy, Meg Myers will stand amongst the other songstresses of 2012 and impress the masses! Although the title, “Curbstop” is unnerving, the song itself is magnificent. With some synthesizer tricks, and some seriously telling lyrics, this song digs deep. As a “Daughter in the Choir”, Meg breaks free of those musical tethers with this track. It’s gorgeous, succinct and addictive. She completely reveals herself throughout this song, and then asks, “Let’s go, I’m ready for it.” The transitions alone are intense, but adding in the lyrics and basic melodies makes the song a legend in it’s own lunchtime. The entire EP, ‘Daughter in the Choir’, is as surprising as it is amazing. It will leave a yearning to watch Meg Myers in action; to see the creator live and candid. This is a must-listen for anyone ready for poetry in musical motion, and for a new kind of sound.

Loud and proud as all punk rock should be, Lower Lands released an EP, ‘Growing Pains’, giving punk rockers something to talk about and rock along to. True to form with pounding drums, definitive guitar riffs, pulsating bass lines and succinct lyrics, this album takes Lower Lands to a higher level of “punk-dom”. All hail ‘Growing Pains’,” for its contribution to the music scene. A great find, and perfect album to mix into any playlist, ‘Growing Pains’ certainly proves that Lower Lands will be ready and able to rock its audience. A Song like “12 Green Bottles”, sets the scene for an epic weekend party. You can picture the video as you listen to the carefully constructed story. Next is “Wide Eyes”, which will most likely serenade from a car stereo on a long drive, or maybe just be on in the background. “Idle Hands, Empty Pockets”, will have you singing along with the deep, soulful lead of front-man, Benji Inkley, as he powers through each melody while oozing “Rock Star”, in more ways than one. Take a part of Wilhelm Scream, a dash of Bayside, a sprinkle of The Used, and even a tad bit of A Day to Remember, and you’ll find little pieces of Lower Lands. Although they do stand alone in many ways, especially vocally, they are definitely reminiscent of their punk rock predecessors. However, they exude individuality with a song like, “Why Don’t We Just Build a Cathedral?”. This track serves as the quintessential punk rock anthem of the album, bound to be at the top of playlists and music collections. Lower Lands’ sound, borders a hard-core vibe but seemingly straddles the line, keeping the alternative punk rock buzz as the foreground and the hardcore pang tucked behind the tumultuous guitar harmonies and melodic choruses. Each tune on ‘Growing Pains’, is a progressive statement of Lower Lands’ ever-expanding presence as writers, composers and musicians. “Reality in Routine”, is one of the strongest tracks on the album, standing out, breaking the band free of any tethers to one genre and intertwining them all into a dizzying harmonic tale. Lastly, “Growing Pains”, for which the EP is named, has a distinctive tone beckoning listeners to memorize and sing along instantly. At first listen it may seem simplistic but with vocal harmonies overshadowing the instruments, it definitely leaves a lasting impression. Lower Lands continues to grow and progress, as ironically heard and so perfectly named, on “Growing Pains.” The songs are an exploration of talent and the band’s drive to be heard. If you haven’t heard Lower Lands yet, they are a must-hear band. Make sure to Pre order the EP here, or buy it when it releases on April 14th, 2012…and be prepared to rock!

Over the past couple months, we’ve had the pleasure of getting to know the extremely business minded, Adam Weintraub. Not only the founder of Paid in Full, a full service talent management service, Adam is also the personal manager of Tampa Bay’s rising star, Swain. Even with all that this dude’s accomplishes within the day, we were still able to sneak in an interview in which we discuss the agency’s beginnings, Adam’s admiration for music mogul, Sean Combs, and that which lies ahead for P.I.F’s buzzing front-runner, Swain. MZG: We’ve heard you mention couple times how Paid In Full is more of a movement than anything else…who specifically is part of this movement that seems to be showing signs of momentum?? P.I.F: Everyone on the team has momentum, including my main recording artist Swain, who has an upcoming mixtape dropping with DJ Smallz…our Actress/Model/Spokesperson, Taysimone, who just finished a movie and is on to the next one, as well as film maker/director/producer Evan Zimmopolus, owner of EGZ productions who does all my videos including an upcoming documentary on what its like to start a label, manage artists, and be an indie artist. But my movement is not limited to only the people I manage, it’s everyone that works with me and supports us, and in return we support them…strength is in number and unity. We can all get ahead if we work together. MZG: It’s no longer 2012, it’s now 2017…where do you see Paid In Full?? P.I.F: Swain’s an international sensation with a Grammy or 10 lol TaySimone is in huge movies, and a spokeperson for Pepsi, and Evan is directing the next movie that will take all awards shows by storm, earning earn him a seat next to the likes of Scorsese. As for me, would love to be a full service agency, management, record label, with a clothing line. It is my goal to pursue as many different avenues as possible, so I have a conglomerate for my artists to call home. The possibilities are endless. It makes me so happy to think of the future, I don’t know what will happen, but with this much planning, I’m sure we are destine to play in the big leagues soon. Paid In Full isn’t the first company you started..what were you doing before hand, and how have your previous experiences played into the development of your current venture?? P.I.F: Well I’ve been well versed in business my whole life. My parents owned different companies as far back as I can remember, and I have always had that drive and entrepreneurial spirit to do for my self and create something… well oiled machine, if you will, a thriving business. Before I was in the music industry, I was in the service industry, maintaining huge commercial accounts with my Full Service Commercial Cleaning Company. It wasn’t very glamorous, but it was very lucrative. Now cleaning may not have anything to do with music, but it taught me to be thorough, and it also taught me how to please the client. I definitely learned how to pay attention to detail, and I think in the music industry, its all about the details. It’s how you tweek things to make them better, from the lyrics to the beat to the performance. Learning what is going to give the best possible product to your fans. The music industry is definitely changing…finally catching up with the digital age. And thanks to an unimaginable number of online Do-It-Yourself media services, artists can now produce their own music, promote their own music, and sell their own music. What are your thoughts on how a management company, ie. Paid In Full, fits into the evolving industry’s ecosystem?? P.I.F: I think in any business, if you don’t shift as the market does, you will die off quickly. Learning to adapt in any industry your in is important. And sure artists can do all of these things, but then when would they have time to make music? That is the whole idea, artists get to focus on there music. They are encouraged to be involved in all aspects of management and marketing, but if they are always doing internet work, how are they supposed to perform shows, get in the studio, etc. And when would the be able to focus on the most importing thing… the music. MZG: In a previous conversation, you had mentioned that you were looking to become the Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs of this generation. If you ask us, that kind of achievement seems like a double-edged sword…so what is it about P. Diddy that you admire, and would like to emulate?? P.I.F: If you ask me, success in general is a double edge sword. I admire someone who gave up things, and devoted there life because they were so passionate about other people’s music… being able to keep in mind others. You kinda have to love your artists’ music more than they do. But for my out look on P. Diddy, its not even about the music. Its about being an innovator, pushing to try new things, and creating an empire and being a mogul. From his endorsement deals, to TV shows, even his charity work…. and let’s not forget about Sean John clothing, and the big one…Ciroc…his line of ultra premium vodka. Let’s not even get into the fact that he’s a producer and recording artist as well. So for one man to wear that many hats, and do them all well…I salute him. Now, I could’ve named some other people who are moguls as well, but I think Diddy just fits my style best. MZG: So apparently there’s a decent amount of buzz throughout Tampa, surrounding an artist on your roster by the name of “Swain”…how did you guys get to this point? Tell us why the Pain In Full artist, should be recognized as one of the Bay area’s up and coming talents. P.I.F: With Swain it started [...]

The post Paid in Full: Talk About Stiffin’ the Competition [interview] appeared first on MuzikGem.com | Live To Listen..

P.I.F: With Swain it started even before me, he was already rapping, writing, and shooting videos, but I helped him take it to the next level, and increased his production value. The truth is there is no easy “get buzz quick” tactic. There are many marketing tools, but it still takes meeting people, and shaking hands one by one, in order to get your recognition. That’s how you get noticed, not from some poster on the street. We should be recognized because we’re number one. We won’t just represent any act. I am very careful about making sure that whoever we represent, is a good fit for our organization…I need to see that person’s drive and love for what they do, and for no other reason than the love of their art. If you just wanna be famous don’t approach me. If you think your talent can be channeled to make you famous, and provide for you family that’s what I’m looking for, because at the end of the day fuck fame, it doesn’t pay the bills, and we aren’t in it for our 15 mins. We wanna make a mark that will be everlasting, and in my opinion, Swain has this ability matched with drive and determination, and we aren’t gonna stop. We may not be loved by everyone, but we will be respected by the real people, who at the end of the day, are the real fans.

MZG: Just about everyone in the hip hop community knows about the movie, “Paid In Full” starring Mekhi Phifer, it’s definitely an urban classic…but being that it’s the name of your production company, it obviously holds a deeper meaning for you. Care to explain??

P.I.F: On the surface its very simple and straight forward. To be paid in full for your hard work, and no longer having to wait to see income off of that hard work. But if you know the movie, ‘A-Boogie’ had a utopian idea that, he wasn’t trying to keep shit all to himself. He didn’t want others hating that he put people on and tried to help put other people on in order to make money. He didn’t do it to be cool or to shine, he did it to provide for his people. So my idea behind the company was that I’m tired of seeing artists getting taken advantage of in the music industry and not working together. So the name not only represents the fact that I wanna make sure my artist get paid, but also that the people around us, even if they aren’t a part of Paid In Full, get the same.

MZG: We can’t lie, the beard is pretty pimp…how long you think you’re gonna rock it??

P.I.F: Thank you! I take a lot of pride, and enjoy the compliment, It started because I wanted to trying something different, and then I ended up keeping it because my girlfriend likes it…but honestly.. to me…it represents a symbol of my dedication to this movement, and all the things associated with it. So I will be keeping the beard indefinitely, until me and my whole team make it big…and even then I’ll probably keep it. It represents time, patience, and effort put forth, and I rock it to let everyone know we aren’t going anywhere.
